We post the bond

After paperwork is signed, your licensed bondsman goes straight to the jail to post the bond and secure release. We handle the paperwork, the waiting, and the jail process so you do not have to. Release times vary by facility — we stay in contact the entire way through and keep helping after they are out.

Step by step

What happens in this step

Paperwork completed and signed

Before we leave for the jail, the indemnity agreement, payment receipt, and any collateral documents are signed and in hand. This protects everyone and is required by the jail before the bond can be posted.

We go to the jail

Your bondsman physically goes to the detention facility to post the bond — you do not need to be there. We deal with the booking desk, the magistrate, and the release processing so you can wait at home or wherever is comfortable.

Understanding release times

Release times depend on the county and the facility’s workload — anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours after the bond is posted. Larger, busier jails take longer. We monitor the process and will call or text you with updates as soon as we have them.

What happens at release

When released, the defendant signs any remaining bond conditions and receives their court date. They may have conditions like checking in, travel restrictions, or no-contact orders. We go over these with them so nothing is missed.

We stay with you after release

Our job does not end at the jail door. We send court-date reminders, help track hearing changes, and check in to keep your loved one compliant. Missing court is the fastest way back to jail — we help make sure that does not happen.

Quick checklist

  • Release can take 30 minutes to several hours depending on the jail.
  • You do not need to be at the jail — we post the bond for you.
  • Save every court date the moment it is given to you.
  • Keep your bondsman’s number handy for reminders and questions.
  • A missed court date forfeits the bond — call us immediately if anything changes.

Legal Disclaimers

  • Off The Hook Bail Bonds is a licensed North Carolina bail bonding agency regulated by the North Carolina Department of Insurance under N.C. Gen. Stat. Chapter 58, Article 71. All bail bondsmen are individually licensed by the State of North Carolina.
  • The bail bond premium in North Carolina is 15% of the face value of the bond, which is the maximum rate allowed by state law. This premium is fully earned and non-refundable once the bond has been posted and the defendant released from custody.
  • By signing as an indemnitor or co-signer, you assume financial responsibility for the defendant's appearance at all required court dates. If the defendant fails to appear, the court may order forfeiture of the bond, and the indemnitor may become liable for the full face value of the bond plus recovery costs and expenses.
  • Collateral, when required, is held to secure the bond and is returned upon exoneration of the bond by the court, less any outstanding amounts owed for premiums, fees, or forfeiture costs.
  • North Carolina law prohibits bail bondsmen from rebating, discounting, or refunding any portion of the premium, and from soliciting business inside or on the grounds of any jail, courthouse, or other place of confinement.
  • Federal bail bonds are governed by the federal Bail Reform Act and the local rules of the United States District Court where the case is heard. Federal surety bonds typically carry a 15% premium and are subject to federal court procedures distinct from North Carolina state courts.
